Galatians 5:16-25 (NKJV) 16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. 19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
To operate in the gifts of the Spirit properly, we must operate in the fruit of the Spirit proficiently.
- More important than operating in the “Gifts of the Spirit” we need to do them in the motivation of the “Fruit of the Spirit”.
- To walk in the Spirit is to bare the Fruit of the Spirit.
- We walk in the Spirit and are led by the Spirit we will walk victorious over sin.
- Our focus is outwardly displaying the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.
1 Cor 13…the Love Chapter…Is a Fruit…
1 Corinthians 14:1 (AMP) 1 EAGERLY PURSUE and seek to acquire [this] love [make it your aim, your great quest]; and earnestly desire and cultivate the spiritual endowments (gifts), especially that you may prophesy (interpret the divine will and purpose in inspired preaching and teaching).
- In this order…Eagerly Pursue Love (Fruit) And Then Earnestly Desire (Gifts)
- Sandwich… Ch 12 Gifts / Ch 13 Fruit / Ch 14 Gifts
- We must develop in the fruit 1st than develop in the gifts.
Is it the “Holy Spirit” or “My spirit?”
John 3:1-7 (AMP)
- Flesh produces flesh
- Spirit produces spirit
- Born of the Spirit is spirit
- All things reproduce after its kind…orange to orange / dog to dog…etc.
- Whatever the Holy Spirit is…you were born just like Him.
- If the Holy Spirit has these 9 attributes (traits)…you are these 9 attributes (traits)
- These are character traits we share with our God…we look like our Father in heaven.
- You have “joy” even if I don’t feel like it in my soul.
- Walk in the Spirit (that’s who and what you are)…not in the flesh
- Need to be spirit minded…that’s where the victory is.
- Joyful when the middle of trouble…loving when people are not loving.
The answer to the question is…yes or both…we are of Him and are one.
Sanctification
Define: the state God makes you when you are born again…separated unto Him.
- To separate or set apart for God
- This is something God did by grace…you received it by faith
- You didn’t do it…God did it
- Instantly sanctified at the new birth…its done.
1 Corinthians 1:1-2 (NKJV)
- Not when someone lays hands on you.
- Not 10yr after your salvation and you rededicate your life to Christ.
Example: I want everyone to sit down right now…you already are.
Trying to become what you already are is frustrating.
You are sanctified.
Meditating the word on who you are in Christ is important.
2 Thessalonians 2:13 (NKJV)
- You were born of the Spirit…sanctification is by the Spirit. (John 3:6)…that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.
- Sanctification is what you became at salvation.
Hebrews 10:9-10 (NKJV) 9 then He said, “Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first (animal) that He may establish the second (Christ). 10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
- It’s already done.
- Once for all time
