Sanctification vs. Holiness II
Galatians 5:16-25 (NKJV)
To operate in the gifts of the Spirit properly, we must operate in the fruit of the Spirit proficiently.
- More important than operating in the “Gifts of the Spirit” we need to do them in the motivation of the “Fruit of the Spirit”.
- To walk in the Spirit is to bare the Fruit of the Spirit.
- We walk in the Spirit and are led by the Spirit we will walk victorious over sin.
- Our focus is outwardly displaying the fruit of the Spirit in our lives.
Holiness
Define: Holiness…Character and conduct of those who have experienced salvation or sanctification by which the life of Christ is work out of them.
Intimacy is the Key
John 15:1-5 (NKJV)
- We bear fruit as a result of staying connected and intimate with God.
- He is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control…this is Holiness and its progressive.
- 1 Corinthians 6:17 (NKJV) 17 But he who is joined to the Lord is one spirit with Him. (you have His DNA)
Matthew 7:15-20 (NKJV)
By their Fruit…Not Gifts; V21-23 Gifts can be Faked and deceiving. Acts 20…7 sons of Sceva.
John 17:20-23 (NKJV)
- God living in and through you is “baring fruit”.
- A tree, if it stays in the ground and is watered, will bear fruit of its kind.
- Stay intimate with God and watered with the word…will bear fruit of His kind.
- You began to look more and more like Him all the time.
- Fruit is for your benefit and the passer byer.
- This is the goal of our Christian life.
- Religion says…bear fruit (Holiness) so you can become a branch (Saint) so the Vine will receive you. (Sanctified)
Philippians 2:12-13 (AMP) 12 Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent, work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete) your own salvation with reverence and awe and trembling (self-distrust, with serious caution, tenderness of conscience, watchfulness against temptation, timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God and discredit the name of Christ). 13 [Not in your own strength] for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you [energizing and creating in you the power and desire], both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction and delight.
- Not to get saved…But because you are saved
- Work outward what is already in you.
- Ephesians 4:24 (AMP) 24 And put on (“The outside”)the new nature (the regenerate self) created in God’s image, [Godlike] in true righteousness and holiness.
Galatians 5:22-25 (AMP) 22 But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness, 23 Gentleness (meekness, humility), self-control (self-restraint, continence). Against such things there is no law [that can bring a charge]. 24 And those who belong to Christ Jesus (the Messiah) have crucified the flesh (the godless human nature) with its passions and appetites and desires. 25 If we live by the [Holy] Spirit, let us also walk by the Spirit. [If by the Holy Spirit we have our life in God (“Born of the Spirit”), let us go forward walking in line, our conduct controlled by the Spirit.]
- “Born of the Spirit”…My add on
Romans 8:14-18 (AMP) 14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. 15 For [the Spirit which] you have now received [is] not a spirit of slavery to put you once more in bondage to fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption [the Spirit producing sonship] in [the bliss of] which we cry, Abba (Father)! Father! 16 The Spirit Himself [thus] testifies together with our own spirit, [assuring us] that we are children of God. 17 And if we are [His] children, then we are [His] heirs also: heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ [sharing His inheritance with Him]; only we must share His suffering if we are to share His glory. 18 [But what of that?] For I consider that the sufferings of this present time (this present life) are not worth being compared with the glory that is about to be revealed to us and in us and for us and conferred on us!
2 Corinthians 4:16-18 (NKJV) 16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, 18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.
