James 3:1-17 (NKJV)
1 My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment.
2 For we all stumble in many things. If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle the whole body.

James 3:2 (AMP)
2 For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature.

  • The secrete to a faith filled life is “Not Stumbling in Words”…”saying the right things”
  • We can control (Bridle) our lives with words.

3 Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. (Control its destination)
4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. (Controls its destination)
5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; (Controls its destination) and it is set on fire by hell.

  • Are our lives where they are due to the words we have been speaking?
  • Tongue is our steering wheel for our lives…change course?? Change words!
  • Heading toward Denver but want to go to Houston…turn the steering wheel toward Houston.
  • Can we change the course of our lives by speaking different words…words that come from above.

7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and creature of the sea, is tamed and has been tamed by mankind.
8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.
9 With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.
10 Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so.

  • Our mouths should be “Blessing and Blessing”

11 Does a spring send forth fresh water and bitter from the same opening?
12 Can a fig tree, my brethren, bear olives, or a grapevine bear figs? Thus no spring yields both salt water and fresh.
13 Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.
14 But if you have bitter envy and self-seeking in your hearts, do not boast and lie (Speak) against the truth.
15 This wisdom (Words from the heart) does not descend from above, but is earthly, sensual, demonic. (WOW)
16 For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing (KJV Work) are there.
17 But the wisdom (Words from the heart) that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.

  • Does our words matter????

Proverbs 18:20-21 (AMP)
20 A man’s [moral] self shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth; and with the consequence of his words he must be satisfied [whether good or evil].
21 Death and life are in the power of the (Devil?  God?) tongue, and they who indulge in it shall eat the fruit of it [for death or life].

Proverbs 30:32 (NKJV)
32 If you have been foolish in exalting yourself, Or if you have devised evil (Evil thoughts), put your hand on your mouth.

  • Don’t just blurt out whatever comes to your mind…learn the art of silence.

Psalm 141:3 (NKJV)
3 Set a guard, O LORD, over my mouth; Keep watch over the door of my lips.

  • Your lips are a door into this physical plane of existence.
  • Please help me control my lips.
  • I want them only to serve You and Your kingdom purpose.

Psalm 39:1 (NKJV)
1 I said, “I will guard my ways, (HOW?) Lest I sin with my tongue; I will restrain my mouth with a muzzle, While the wicked are before me.”

  • The devil (Wicked) are after your tongue.
  • If you have to stick a sock in your mouth…Do It!

Numbers 13:1-2; 18-20; 26-33; 14:4-10     The 12 Spies Their words defeated them and they got what they said

  • 10 with a bad, evil report (Words)…it was contrary to what God said “Go up and poses the land”
  • 2 with a good report (Words)…it agreed with God.
  • When you speak kingdom words of faith it will anger the tribulators.
  • The devil doesn’t want to hear it…stone them!!! They did Stephen that way too.
  • When you speak kingdom words of faith…you’re dangerous to the kingdom of darkness.

Meanwhile in the promise land

Joshua 2:8-11 (NKJV)
8 Now before they lay down, she came up to them on the roof,
9 and said to the men: “I know that the LORD has given you the land, that the terror of you has fallen on us, and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you.
10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed.
11 And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the LORD your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath.

  • We looked like grasshopper to them.
  • For 40+ years they have been saying, confessing, and declaring “We are going to die”.
  • They got what they said.
  • Numbers 22-24 Balak, King of Moab & Balaam

Numbers 22:1-4 (NKJV)
1 Then the children of Israel moved, and camped in the plains of Moab on the side of the Jordan across from Jericho.
2 Now Balak the son of Zippor saw all that Israel had done to the Amorites.
3 And Moab was exceedingly afraid of the people because they were many, and Moab was sick with dread because of the children of Israel.
4 So Moab said to the elders of Midian, “Now this company will lick up everything around us, as an ox licks up the grass of the field.” And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.

  • Confirmed…the people Believed in their hearts and said with their mouths…”We are going to die.”
  • Exceedingly Afraid, and Sick with Dread…believed in Heart ”Now this company”…Said with their mouths
