James 3:2 (AMP)
2 For we all often stumble and fall and offend in many things. And if anyone does not offend in speech [never says the wrong things], he is a fully developed character and a perfect man, able to control his whole body and to curb his entire nature.

  • The secrete to a faith filled life is “Not Stumbling in Words”…”saying the right things”
  • We can control (Bridle) our lives with words.

3 Indeed, we put bits in horses’ mouths that they may obey us, and we turn their whole body. (Control its destination)
4 Look also at ships: although they are so large and are driven by fierce winds, they are turned by a very small rudder wherever the pilot desires. (Controls its destination)
5 Even so the tongue is a little member and boasts great things. See how great a forest a little fire kindles!
6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity. The tongue is so set among our members that it defiles the whole body, and sets on fire the course of nature; (Controls its destination) and it is set on fire by hell.

  • Are our lives where they are due to the words we have been speaking?
  • Can we change the course of our lives by speaking different words…words that come from above.

Romans 4:16-18 (NKJV)
16  Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace, so that the promise might be sure to all the seed, not only to those who are of the law, but also to those who are of the faith of Abraham, who is the father of us all
17  (as it is written, “I have made you a father of many nations”) in the presence of Him whom he believed–God, who gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did;
18  who, contrary to hope, in hope believed, so that he became the father of many nations, according to what was spoken, “So shall your descendants be.”

  • V16 God ignored his whining and declared him victorious over the Midianites.

Gideon takes God up on it and with 300 men destroys the Midianites.

God spoke to Gideon and he became what God said he was.

Words changed the course of Abrams life like a steering wheel.

  • Read on…it inspired the men form stoning David to fighting on.

Matthew 12:34-37 (New King James Version)
34  Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.
35  A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.
36  But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment.
37  For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

Many things he would try

For he knew soon he would die

Now Jimi’s gone, he’s not alone

His memory still lives on

Five years, this he said

Pastore said “you guys know I ride a motorcycle, right? At any moment, especially the idiot people that cross the diamond lane into my lane…at any minute, I could be spread all over the 210.” That same day he rode his motorcycle on the 210 and someone ran into him, killing him.

What are we saying:

  • Failure over our future
  • Declaring poverty
  • Agreeing with hopelessness
  • Defeat is my lot in life

Joel Osteen…

Don’t use your words to describe your life.

Use your words to change your life.

It not enough to stop saying negative words over your life.

Use your words to say positive words over your life…like God did over Abraham, Gideon, Jeremiah.

Again…what are we saying over our…Life, Finances, Family, Health, Careers…etc.

Our words shape our world.
