Proverbs 21:23 (New King James Version)
23  Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul (life) from troubles…Soul (Greek) – Life

Research says that 2000 words make up 95% of the vocabulary used in daily conversation.

We don’t need a 10,000-word vocabulary the communicate.

It’s not how many words we use…it’s how we use them.

Women use 13,000 more words a day then men.

  • Women speak 20,000 words a day
  • Men speak 7,000 words a day.
  • Scientists – found a protein Foxp2, known as the “Language protein”, was higher in the female brain then men.
  • Next time your husband says “You talk too much…just say “It’s not me, it’s the Foxp2 that’s talking)
  • (its OK ladies, God made you that way)

The word “OK” is the most used “typed or spoken” in the world.

Allan Metcalf’s Book “The Improbable Story of America’s Greatest Word” (Someone wrote a book on this?)

  1. Railroad worker, Obadiah Kelly, would initial O and K on each item that would ship with his approval.
  2. Political organization invented the “O.K. Club” when Martin Van Buren was running for president in 1840.

Taken from the town he was born, Old Kinderhook, New York.

Either way, “OK” has spread to the far corners of the globe.

Clichés

  • Beat around the bush
  • Amount to a hill of beans
  • Til the cows come home

Bit the Bullet – just do it…even when you don’t want to.

  • surgical procedure used before anesthetic. Surgeons would operate on wounded soldiers and give them a bullet to bit down on to distract them from the pain.

Cat Got Your Tongue – when you don’t want to say something.

  • Middle Eastern Punishment…if one was caught lying, they would rip their tongues out and feed them to the kings cats.

Spilling the Beans – to tell a secret.

  • Ancient Greece – they would vote on matters with either black (No) or white (Yes) beans. Dropped them into a pot and when finished, “Spilled the Beans” on a table to reveal the secret ballet.

Butter someone up – impress someone with flattery

  • Ancient India – they threw balls of butter at their idols to solicit forgiveness for their sins.

Don’t throw the baby out with the bath water – don’t throw out the valuable things with the invaluable.

  • 1500’s families bathed, once a year, in the same bathe water…Men, then Women, Children, last Babies.

The water was so filthy and scummy that you want to make sure the baby is out before you throw out the water.

Give them the cold shoulder – to be slightly rude or anti-social toward someone.

  • Medieval England – to hint to an unwelcome guest “it’s time to go!” they would serve them a piece of cold meat off the shoulder of pork or beef.

Abracadabra – means…” what I speak is what I create.” (There is some truth in that)

We have a habit of saying things that we don’t know their origins or meanings and how do they impact our lives.

Proverbs 18:7 (King James Version)
7  A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul (Life).

Just as ridiculous clichés are…how about the words we say about ourselves.

  • “Your killing me.”
  • “I would die for that.”
  • “I died laughing.”
  • “that makes me sick.”
  • “I’d have a heart attack if I did that.”
  • “that totally blows my mind.”

Pay attention to the words you say.

If your words are not taking you closer to your dreams, then they could be taking you away from them.

How about these damaging statements? (I have been catching myself on some of these)

  • “I could never afford something like that.” (BMW on hwy 24)
  • “That’s too expensive for me.”
  • “I never get any breaks.”
  • “I could never make that much money.”
  • “I could never live in a house like that.”
  • “Im just unlucky.”
  • “Nothing can be easy.” (My boys love to quote me on that)

Stop all this “I could never” talk!!!

We have friends and family that say these things…without thinking we respond “You got that right.”

Remember Dr. Emoto’s experiment…3 flasks of water and rice. He spoke…1 month everyday.

  1. “Thank you.” …fermented and smiled pleasant.
  2. “You’re an idiot.” …black, mushy, sour milk smell.
  3. Said nothing…rot and mold, looked greenish blue.

(the second law of Thermodynamics is the fact that everything in our universe, when left to itself, tends toward more and more disorder.

Hebrews 1:3 (New King James Version)
3  who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power… (Doing nothing in life will make it rotten)

Many will say “This is nonsense, it won’t work for me.” Yes, it is…you’re getting what you say.

The Mall…

EX: You are here!

  • You are here…we are going to in these lessons find out where we are
  • Directory…we are we going and change that direction to where we want to go.
  • Women Apparel…not specific enough…which store do you want.
  • We need to pin point our destination…Stein Mart.

Proverbs 29:18 (King James Version)
18  Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.

  • Proverbs 29:18 (Young’s Literal Translation)
18 Without a Vision is a people made naked, And whoso is keeping the law, O his happiness!

If you don’t have a vision or destination your dying. You’re going nowhere.

Habakkuk 2:2-3 (New King James Version)
2  Then the LORD answered me and said: “Write the vision And make it plain on tablets, That he may run who reads it. (So you have something to hang your faith on…We knew God said “Lead a team to Nicaragua)
3
For the vision is yet for an appointed time; But at the end it will speak, and it will not lie. Though it tarries, wait for it; Because it will surely come, It will not tarry. (even though it seems like its taking a long time, stay with it.  It will come to pass on God’s timing).

  • If your goal is to reach a financial goal…write the amount
  • Vague goals produce vague results.
  • EX: Last year we believed for $4,000 for the mission trip.
  • We had no idea how we were going to get it in our present budget…But God!!

~I wrote it down on a card and posted it on my prayer board.

~I pointed at it every day and said I thank you Lord that I have $4,000 for the mission trip.

Just as a simple change of words changed the blind man’s outcome, the same will happen to you.

Proverbs 18:7 (New King James Version)
7  A fool’s mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul (Life).
