Prosperity – The Power of a Cause

Prosperity in the Balance

” For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?”

The Law of Cause and Effect

This is also referred to as causation. It is the relationship between an event (the cause) and a second event (the effect), where the second event is understood as a consequence of the first.

  • This law of Cause and effect was God inspired.
  • If you want something to happen! “CAUSE IT”
  • If God says in His word “Do this”(Cause)” then you will get this”(Effect).

For the wages of sin(Cause) is death(Effect), but the gift of God(Cause) is eternal life(Effect) in Christ Jesus our Lord. —Romans 6:23

  • Believe it, it’s a Law.
  • This is true with everything in God’s word. Including the laws of prosperity.

Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” —Luke 6:38

  • Give (Cause) and it will be given unto you (Effect)
  • Jesus is explaining a Law that God put into the earth.
  • How much FAITH you put into that LAW will determine how much you will benefit. (What measure that you use)

Elijah and Widow

Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.” So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, indeed a widow was there gathering sticks. And he called to her and said, “Please bring me a little water in a cup, that I may drink.” And as she was going to get it, he called to her and said, “Please bring me a morsel of bread in your hand.”

So she said, “As the Lord your God lives, I do not have bread, only a handful of flour in a bin, and a little oil in a jar; and see, I am gathering a couple of sticks that I may go in and prepare it for myself and my son, that we may eat it, and die.”

And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’” —1 Kings 17:8-14

  • She Gave to Elijah FIRST (Cause) Then Received Provision (Effect)
  • You Must First Give (Cause) Then it’s given to you (Effect).
  • Because she believed the man of God She reap provision throughout the drought.
  • This simple law acted on saved the Widow, her son and the Prophet.

Elisha and Widow

A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord. And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”

So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you? Tell me, what do you have in the house?” And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”

Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”

So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out. Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.”

And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.” So the oil ceased. Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.” —2 Kings 4:1-7

  • What do you have in the house? (WE NEED A CAUSE)
  • What do you have to give, sow, invest. What do you have to work with.
  • Do not gather a few! “With what measure you measure, it will be measured to you.”

Neither of these women had “squat to give” but became rich with over abundance.

A calculated Cause can produce a desired End (Effect)

Paul

Let him who stole steal no longer, but rather let him labor, working with his hands what is good, that he may have something to give him who has need. —Ephesians 4:28

This seems CRAZY to us at first, but in light of what we have just learned…

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work. As it is written:

“He has dispersed abroad,
He has given to the poor;
His righteousness endures forever.”

Now may He who supplies seed to the sower, and bread for food, supply and multiply the seed you have sown and increase the fruits of your righteousness, while you are enriched in everything for all liberality, which causes thanksgiving through us to God. For the administration of this service not only supplies the needs of the saints, but also is abounding through many thanksgivings to God, while, through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men, and by their prayer for you, who long for you because of the exceeding grace of God in you. Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift! —2 Corinthians 9:6-15

  • V6…with what measure you measure it will be measured to you (Lk 6:38)
  • V7…where your treasure is there your heart will be also. (Matt 6:21)
  • V13… Equated the “Gospel of Christ” with “Liberal Sharing”
