Tithing Brings Power
- Tithing did not start with the Mosaic Law; Levitical priesthood.
- Tithing started with our father Abram and Melchizedek.
Abram and Melchizedek
Now when Abram heard that his brother was taken captive, he armed his three hundred and eighteen trained servants who were born in his own house, and went in pursuit as far as Dan. He divided his forces against them by night, and he and his servants attacked them and pursued them as far as Hobah, which is north of Damascus. So he brought back all the goods, and also brought back his brother Lot and his goods, as well as the women and the people.
And the king of Sodom went out to meet him at the Valley of Shaveh (that is, the King’s Valley), after his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer and the kings who were with him.
Then Melchizedek king of Salem brought out bread and wine; he was the priest of God Most High. And he blessed him and said:
“Blessed be Abram of God Most High,
Possessor of heaven and earth;
And blessed be God Most High,
Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.”
And he gave him a tithe of all.Now the king of Sodom said to Abram, “Give me the persons, and take the goods for yourself.”
But Abram said to the king of Sodom, “I have raised my hand to the Lord, God Most High, the Possessor of heaven and earth, that I will take nothing, from a thread to a sandal strap, and that I will not take anything that is yours, lest you should say, ‘I have made Abram rich.’— Genesis 14:14-23
What Happened Here?
- servants destroys a massive army…that’s prosperity
- He’s the priest from old Jerusalem…of God Most High.
- He brings a covenant meal and blesses Abram declaring that God was the author of his resent prosperity.
- Abram agrees and acknowledges it by giving the first fruits of it. He Tithed.
- This is how Abram tithed…He raised his hand and swore his heart to God saying “No one makes me rich but You, God Most High.” Taking the bread and the wine in covenant vow.
- This prosperity was Supernatural…came from God… Abram knew it!
- Melchizedek did not: Beat him, threaten him or condemn him. It was voluntary.
Priesthood After the Order of Melchizedek
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. — Hebrews 6:19-20
- Jesus is the High Priest FOREVER according to the order of Melchizedek.
- NOT according to the Aaronic (Law) priesthood.
- But according to Priesthood 400yrs before the law…Priesthood.
See also Hebrews 7:4-17
- Unlike the Melchizedek priesthood, in the Law tithes were taken by commandment.
- mortal men received tithes…but He (Melchizedek “Jesus”) now receives them.
- Jesus is of Judah not Levi…this is a kingly priesthood, forever
- Started with Melchizedek…through the law…out into eternity…as Jesus the King and High priest over our tithe just as Melchizedek was over Abrahams.
- Tithes are given voluntarily (as Abraham) as a showing of allegiants to God “Lifting our hands swearing, God is my provider, it’s not me or man who makes me rich!”
- As a Faith declaration, Abraham Tithed (10%) eating a covenant meal unto God.
- Like Abraham we give out of love, devotion and honor to our God “our provider”
- Matt 6:21 “Where your treasure is, there you heart will be also.”
- This is way the blessing of God worked for Him. He had money, money did not have him. Wealth was a part of life, not life itself.
- This is a mature man of God, with a proper perspective on wealth
Why did God Commission Tithing?
Answer: Faith without works is dead!
See James 2:14-26
- Faith’s power lies in the “acting on it”
- Faith “by itself” is powerless (Dead and inactive)
- Only through acting on what’s in your heart does your faith manifest into the physical
- Abraham put motion to his faith “He proved what He believed by acting on it. And he was called the friend of God.
- God has given His children a venue to express their faith openly. It’s called “Tithes and Offerings”
- Demonstrating our faith in His provision to us.
- It’s not out of necessity…or it would not be out of faith.
A voluntary “Cheerful” giver…Gives out of his heart “by faith” knowing it came by your loving father Who wants to pure wealth on you in abundance. 2 Cor 9:7-8
Giving demonstrate the heart condition…it’s safe to pure out more.
